Open Shelf Under the Sink

Hi there! I know the open shelf concept is all the rage right now...

and as I was contemplating 

an easy way to refresh the kitchen for spring, I had an odd idea. 

What about an open shelf under the sink? So, I gave it a try...and to my surprise,

I really like the look. I removed the grain sack curtain and placed it in the small window 

above the sink. 

Vintage grain sacks are so versatile, and there is no need to sew...I just doubled it

over the spring rod in the window. I like the neutral color with all

the white.

To add a pop of color below the sink, I placed our vintage crate full of 

seltzer bottles on the shelf. I thought it ties in well with the other

wooden tones. Do you think I have too many cutting boards?

Maybe you're wondering where the "under the sink" cleaners and bottles went?

I placed them in the left bottom cabinet, where I had extra storage space available. 

One day, when I can purchase some pretty cleaning bottles, I may just display

those under the sink on the open shelf. However, that's just not in the budget 

right now.

What about the ugly pipes under the sink? Well, I used a burlap cord cover to 

disguise the pipes. There is still a small section that's visible...but 

it's not too distracting.

Overall, I like the new look!

I do enjoy my little sink area...I try to keep it simple, with only the things I

need at hand. I don't mind doing dishes, especially when the sun's shining 

and the dish soap smells of basil- like Mrs. Meyers Dish Soap :)
