Cleaning & Menu Planning

Hi sweet friends! Can you believe it’s already Monday?  Another weekend has come and gone.  I spent most of the weekend in the kitchen.  After the Holidays I didn’t have the chance to “deep-clean” when I put away the decorations.  So I got busy wiping down shelves and organizing cabinets.

While I do enjoy having the open shelves in the kitchen, I dislike cleaning them.  Maybe if I didn’t place so many dishes up there…but I try to keep dishes we regularly use within reach, and this set-up works well for us.

Anyway, as I finished up the kitchen, I sat down to plan the week’s menu.  One thing I really wanted to improve on this year is menu planning.  Instead of deciding what to cook each day at 5:00pm…I am planning out the week’s meals so that I know which meat to have defrosting the night before.  I found this Household Menu Organizer at Lifeway Bookstore for $5 !

It has a monthly calendar for writing your daily meal and a grocery list for each week.  It really has helped me to stay organized and plan ahead.

I also have been clipping more coupons. A friend told me about Coupons.com, and it seems to have coupons that I really use.  This organizer has a pocket to store coupons for each month.

So I thought maybe if you are looking to do a “menu makeover” this year, you would really enjoy this organizer.  Also, it has tips on making healthy meals for your family and the importance of eating fresh.

Now, my kitchen is clean and my meals are planned for the week…

Wish the rest of the house was in order :)

Do you make weekly menus? I’d love to hear how you stay organized in this area.

Maybe soon we could talk about keeping the pantry and fridge organized…

Thanks for stopping by!

PS

I’ll post the winner of INSPIRED YOU by Miss Mustard Seed real soon :}

Blessings

  1. I am working on a set of menus this week, as a matter of fact. I did this years ago and got away from it. Now I am returning. It will be good.

  3. As much as I try menus I just won't stick with it, I am more a decide in the morning and fix it for dinner kind of gal. When company comes to stay I do make a list of breakfast, lunch, and dinner ideas and then pull from them.

  8. When I had the children at home I did plan my menus, based on what was on sale and the coupons. I had a book similar to yours. It worked pretty well...and I saved lots of money.
Problem was over time no one wanted what was on the menu that day...."spagetti? It's too hot" or "we had that a school" or "I want the chicken that is on Tues" or the advertised meat wasn't as good looking as I had hoped.....
Now it is just the two of us and I don't plan like that anymore....but it does help. Good Luck and great job....

  10. I am deep cleaning myself today and it feels so good. When the sun shines outside it makes me see the dirt more.

Not much menu planning around here, but I do try to begin thinking about it in the morning before school.

Love all of your stacks of dishes! Love you more!

  11. I am a meal planner, but just in my head. I need to write it down because I am always having to run back to the store for something.
Today I am cleaning out the junk drawer. I can't even find a pen anymore. I do believe it has been 2 years since it's last cleaning. Yikes.

  12. Becky,

I am very much a planner! I keep a list of meals (entree, side dish, etc.) in Excek and use that for planning. I usually plan meals at the beginning of the week (another Excel file) and make my grocery list from there (which is yet another Excel file). For the most part, we stick to the meal plan. But sometimes things change during the week.

    Blessings! Judi

  13. I have open shelves, too, and I clean them off 2-3 times a year. I love redecorating them, although most of the space is taken up with everyday dishes and things. I LOVE your kitchen!

The menu organizer is just what I need. My biggest problem is making meals that everyone agrees they like. So...I ordered the book. Now I can sit down with my family, plan meals and then shop. Thanks so much, Becky!

  16. I do like the way you have framed this specific difficulty plus it does
provide me personally a lot of fodder for consideration.
On the other hand, because of just what I

    have personally seen, I basically

trust as the actual commentary pack on that men and women stay

on point and not get started upon a soap box

regarding some other news of the day. All the same, thank
    you for this

    exceptional piece and although I

can not agree with the idea in totality, I regard

    the viewpoint.

like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me.
In my view, if all site

  21. You are way ahead of the game! I normally only plan a week or two at a time. But lately even that seems to be a struggle. Hopefully I'll get my act together soon. LOL.

  22. Such pretty kitchen pictures! I love your open shelves. I've gone through phases where I've made menus... I cook almost every meal at home, so I usually have a well stocked pantry, refrigerator and freezer, but I don't usually decide what will be for dinner until that morning. My cravings change too frequently I guess! ;-) I'm loving your organizer though.
